WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for BATMAN #152!The Superman vs. Batman debate has become even more complex now that the Dark Knight has demonstrated that his armor can withstand a lethal Kryptonian blow. This revelation significantly boosts Bruce’s chances of not only surviving but potentially winning in a fight against Clark. However, the armor is far from a perfect fix-all.
In Batman #152, by Chip Zdarsky, Mike Hawthorne, Adriano Di Benedetto, and Romulo Fajardo Jr., Selina and Bruce are transported via Boom Tube to Czarnia, Lobo’s home planet, as they attempt to steal Amanda Waller’s Mother Box. The stakes rise dramatically when Waller deploys her Suicide Squad to take them down, leading to a brutal confrontation between Batman and the overpowered Superman clone, Bizarro. Although Bruce has fought Kryptonians before, this is one of the rare instances where he single-handedly faces a Superman-level adversary willing to kill, with minimal preparation time on his side.
Batman’s Fight Proves His Armor Can Withstand Kryptonian Strength
“Chest Armor Took Most of the Blow”: Bruce Wayne’s Tech Can Withstand a Superman-Level Hit
The Bizarro Batman faces in this Absolute Power tie-in issue is a far cry from the well-meaning, lovable character seen in the Red Hood and the Outlaws series. Instead, Bizarro has reverted to his villainous roots as a member of Waller’s Suicide Squad, making him more deadly than ever. With a clear objective—to kill Batman—this Superman clone holds nothing back, leading to a brutal clash with the Dark Knight. Although Bruce initially manages to avoid and outsmart Bizarro, their confrontation escalates when the Kryptonian lands a punch intended to kill.
The blow sends Batman hurtling across the battlefield, yet he not only survives but also gets back on his feet and continues fighting. This is a remarkable feat, as such a hit should have been lethal. Through Batman’s internal monologue, it becomes evident that his survival is due to his advanced armor. Groaning, Batman notes, “Chest armor took most of the blow.” Thus, this moment confirms that Bruce’s technology is sophisticated enough to withstand a Kryptonian-level impact, allowing him to remain functional and continue his fight.
Batman’s Chances of Surviving Against Superman Just Skyrocketed
Bruce’s survival of what should have been a lethal blow from Bizarro not only highlights the advanced nature of his technology—particularly his armor—but also adds new dimensions to the Batman vs. Superman debate. Traditionally, fans have argued that if Batman and Superman were to face off in a death match, Superman would win decisively, as he could incapacitate Batman before the Dark Knight even had a chance to react. This perspective is certainly valid. Conversely, some argue that Batman, given adequate preparation time, could potentially counter the Man of Steel.
However, Bruce’s armor, which successfully withstands a Kryptonian-level hit, introduces a new layer to this debate. It suggests that Batman could survive an encounter with Superman without needing extensive preparation, provided he is suited up. Of course, if Superman were to attack Bruce while he’s out of the suit, the argument shifts. Yet, if Batman is armored, he might stand a chance, even against Superman’s full-force attacks. With the release of this issue it will be interesting to see how much of an advantage fans think this armor actually provides Batman in a showdown with Superman.
Kryptonian-Strength Armor or Not, Bruce’s Head & Neck Are Still Major Weak Spots
Batman’s Armor Tech May Be Impressive, But It Still Isn’t Foolproof
Despite its impressive durability, Batman’s armor still has notable vulnerabilities. For instance, his lower face is left exposed, presenting a potential weak point that could be fatal if struck by a foe as powerful as Superman. Moreover, while the armor provides coverage for his head and neck, these areas might not be sufficient to withstand a lethal blow from a Kryptonian without additional, possibly concealed, enhancements. Given these concerns, future confrontations with Superman-level adversaries should thoroughly test the limits of Batman’s armor, offering fans a clearer understanding of its true capabilities and resilience under extreme conditions.
