This weekend Las Vegas will be hosting Best Friends Forever Fest, an ode primarily to alt rock and second-wave, emotive punk rock. The line-up is as historical as it is nostalgically enduring.
In this, I mean that this festival will be an homage to the torchbearers of independent artistry both now and then to bring an experience that will have attendees experiencing great music while simultaneously reliving the glory days.
These days, festivals that deviate from mass-produced, corporate fodder are as rare as those that take notice of them. In a landscape of ever-expanding genericized genres and mind-numbing commercial brain-rot detritus, certain events still operate from the standpoint of quality and serving the Epicurean palettes of uplifting gourmandizers. Festivals like post-punk’s Cruel World, alt rock’s Just Like Heaven, hardcore’s Furnace Fest, and the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival.
The Best Friends Forever Fest brings with it the opportunity to see Get Up Kids, Sunny Day Real Estate, American Football, Pinback, Built to Spill, Bright Eyes, and Jesus Lizard playing in the same space – which is about as rare as a solar eclipse. For those that are familiar with any of these bands will most certainly be called to attend just based on the sheer criticality of seeing acts that are so infrequently available in the same place.
The festival is three days, Oct 11-13 and will take place at the open air Downtown Las Vegas Events Center in the charming heart of historic downtown Las Vegas, just steps from Fremont Street, with performances held across two stages throughout each day and evening. BFFs is an all ages event featuring local food vendors and beverage options for an all-day live music experience.
