The biggest names in film and television music gathered in Beverly Hills this week as BMI honored the composers behind some of the year’s most memorable scores at the 2026 BMI Film, TV & Visual Media Awards.
Held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, the annual event celebrated the creators behind top-performing films, television series, streaming hits, and video games with acclaimed composer Theodore Shapiro receiving the prestigious BMI Icon Award for his decades of work across film and TV.
Shapiro, known for scoring projects including Severance, The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, was recognized for his massive impact on the industry over the last 25 years. During the evening, BMI executives Mike O’Neill, Mike Steinberg, and Tracy McKnight honored the composer with a tribute featuring messages from longtime collaborators including Ben Stiller, Paul Feig, Ludwig Göransson, and Jay Roach.

Accepting the award, Shapiro thanked BMI and the creative community around him, calling the recognition “such an honor.” The Emmy-winning composer also added three more BMI Awards to his collection during the night for his work on Another Simple Favor, Severance, and The Housemaid, bringing his career total to 28 BMI Awards.
Other major winners throughout the evening included Alexandre Desplat for Jurassic World Rebirth, Ludwig Göransson for Sinners, Gustavo Santaolalla for The Last of Us, Harry Gregson-Williams for The Gilded Age, Dominic Lewis for Karate Kid: Legends, and Sarah Schachner for Predator: Badlands.
The ceremony also spotlighted rising talent, celebrating 19 first-time winners, while composer Atli Örvarsson emerged as one of the night’s biggest honorees with six BMI Awards.
