Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again episode 1 & 2

The premiere episodes of Daredevil: Born Again have arrived, featuring an array of exciting Easter eggs and references. Although Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) may be Daredevil no more after a night of tragedy, Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin (Vincent D’onofrio) has become the new Mayor of New York City, setting up a new status quo in a city full of tension that will undoubtedly force Murdock to become the Man Without Fear once more. To that end, there are plenty of connections to the original Netflix series, the original comics, and the greater MCU overall.

Seven years after Netflix’s Daredevil season 3, the MCU has brought back the Man Without Fear with an all-new show. Grappling with the new Mayor Fisk as well as a trial involving a vigilante and corrupt police officers, Matt Murdock is trying to live his life without a mask after losing Foggy Nelson and nearly killing Bullseye. As such, both premiere episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are chock-full of exciting references, including Wilson Fisk referencing none other than Spider-Man. Here are 28 of the biggest Easter eggs and references we found in Daredevil: Born Again episodes 1 & 2.

The Biggest Easter Eggs and References in Daredevil: Born Again Episodes 1 & 2

“Heaven’s Half Hour” & “Optics”

  • Nelson Murdock & Page – Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, and Karen Page are seen walking out of their law offices at the beginning of the first episode, and the name was chosen at the very end of Daredevil season 3’s finale.
  • Josie’s (and Josie Herself!) – Josie’s is the same bar that Matt, Foggy, and Karen frequented in the Netflix series. Josie herself makes a cameo as well, still played by actress Susan Varon.
  • Jeri Hogarth’s Firm – Foggy mentions that he used to work at Hogarth, Chao & Benowitz. Jeri Hogarth was Carrie-Anne Moss’ character in Netflix’s Jessica Jones.
  • Detective Kim – There is also an NYPD Detective Kim in from the original Marvel Comics.
  • Kirsten McDuffie – Kirsten McDuffie makes her MCU debut in Daredevil: Born. In the comics, Kirsten is a fellow lawyer and one-time love interest of Matt Murdock’s.
  • Bullseye Glove/Purple Mask – Bullseyes can be seen on Poindexter’s gloves, and he’s also featured wearing a purple-accented mask, connecting to his character’s alias and appearance in the comics.
  • Daredevil and Bullseye’s One-Take Fight – The majority of Bullseye and Daredevil’s fight is all one-take, mirroring the classic one-take fights in the original Netflix series, including the season 1 hallway fight, the biker bar in season 2, and the prison riot in season 3.
  • Fisk Eating Omelet – Fisk is shown eating an omelet at the beginning of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, continuing his established morning routine from the Netflix series.
  • Tracksuit Mafia? – Fisk’s wife Vanessa is shown running the crime business, and one of her men named Luca is shown wearing a tracksuit (which gets specifically called out). This potentially suggests that the Tracksuit Mafia is still active and a part of Fisk’s empire.
  • Fisk’s Recovery – It’s revealed that. Vanessa took over while Fisk was away in recovery. This connects to Fisk being shot in the face by Maya Lopez at the end of 2021’s Hawkeye, which led to him being temporarily blind in one eye.
  • Five Families – Vanessa confirms the empire has control over the Five Families, representing the five boroughs of New York.
  • BB Urich – A young journalist named BB Urich is shown conducting interviews with New Yorkers. It’s later revealed that her uncle was indeed Ben Urich, the journalist in Daredevil season 1 who was killed by Fisk.
  • Karen in San Francisco – Although she came back for Bullseye’s trial and sentencing, it’s revealed that Karen left New York and moved to San Francisco. In the comics, Daredevil has spent brief periods living in San Francisco.
  • Heather Glenn – Kirsten McDuffie sets Matt up on a date with therapist Heather Glenn, another of Matt Murdock’s love interests in the original Marvel Comics.
  • “Crushed A Guy’s Head” – One New Yorker interviewed by BB says she heard a rumor that Fisk once crushed a guy’s head. This is a reference to Daredevil season 1 when Fisk did indeed kill a man by repeatedly crushing his head with a car door.
  • “No Nuance About Getting Shot” – During his mayoral debate, Fisk references that he was a victim of vigilante violence when Maya attacked him at the end of Hawkeye season 1.
  • Registering Vigilantes – Fisk criticizes his opponent for wanting to register vigilantes, not unlike the Sokovia Accords that were established in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
  • “Tried To Mentor Someone” – Fisk shares with Murdock that he once tried to mentor someone, which was the closest he ever got to family. This is a reference to his history with Maya Lopez, whom he saw as his niece.
  • “I’ve Kept That Promise” – Confirming that he wasn’t behind Bullseye’s attack, Kingpin says that “he’s kept his promise”. This is a reference to the end of Daredevil season 3 when Fisk and Murdock agreed to an uneasy truce to leave each other’s loved ones alone.
  • NY1 Anchor “Pat” Kiernan – NY1’s Pat Kiernan is shown on television playing himself. Daredevil: Born Again is the 11th MCU project where he’s made an appearance as a news anchor.
  • Kingpin Mural – An anti-Fisk mural is being painted at the end of Daredevil: Born Again episode 1. This mural is being painted by the supervillain artist known as Muse, who similarly hated Fisk in the comics as well.
  • Times Square Easter Eggs – Mayor Fisk’s New Year’s address is played in Times Square, and multiple Easter eggs can be found, including a poster for Rogers: The Musical, an ad for Luke Cage’s jazz club Harlem’s Paradise, and a poster promoting the Pym van Dynce Foundation, Hope’s company that conducts research with Pym Particles.
  • Punisher, Spider-Man, Daredevil References! – Pushing his anti-vigilante agenda, Fisk says, “We don’t need a gun-toting vigilante who wears a skull on his chest, or a man who dresses in a spider outfit. Or a guy who wears devil horns to save us”. Mirroring how bigger MCU heroes were referenced in the Netflix shows, it’s very exciting to hear Fisk refer to none other than Spider-Man.
  • DA Hochberg DA – New York DC Hochberg aka The Hawk is a character from the original Marvel Comics.
  • “I Knew Ben Urich” – BB gets a few minutes with Mayor Fisk, and her connection to Ben Urich is confirmed. Fisk says he knew Ben and that he was a good journalist. In truth, Kingpin murdered Ben Urich at the end of Daredevil season 1.
  • Heather’s Book – Heather Genn’s book is titled Live Without Fear, a nod to Daredevil’s common moniker as “The Man Without Fear”.
  • White Tiger’s Amulet – After Matt Murdock becomes his lawyer and his history as White Tiger is discovered, Hector confirms that his amulet gets his enchanted strength and powers, just like the vigilante’s amulet in the original comics.
  • Punisher’s White Skull Logo – One of the corrupt cops who tries to kill the key witness in Hector’s trial is shown with a tattoo of The Punisher’s white skull symbol, albeit with an American flag on the forehead. As such, this likely connects to the symbol’s controversial use in real-life by police officers and members of the military.
