Bow Wow is shutting down Jermaine Dupri’s declare that he created BET’s once-popular video present 106 & Park.
On The GAUDS Present, a podcast hosted by Ray Daniels, which aired final Tuesday (Dec. 13), Jermaine Dupri claimed that he created 106 & Park only for Bow Wow as a result of there wasn’t a video present like MTV’s TRL that performed Black music.
“106 & Park was created by me,” he advised Daniels on the 46-minute mark within the video under. “I created the present for Bow Wow. I used to be watching MTV and so they had TRL. They catered to NSYNC, The Backstreet Boys and something White that was popping out that was pop. They was permitting these youngsters to scream and holler at them.”
Dupri went on to defined that he offered his concept for a Black model of TRL to Stephen Hill, who was the president of programming for BET on the time.
“I known as Stephen Hill…and I stated we have to make a present identical to TRL [with Bow Wow]…as a result of he was a rapper…he was a Black little younger boy rapping,” he stated. “No person on TV was 12 years previous wherever creating this sort of fandomonium.”
Bow Wow, whose actual title is Shad Moss, caught wind of JD’s remark and stated, “Cease the cap!”
“JD aint create 106&Park cease the cap,” he tweeted on his Twitter account on Sunday (Dec. 18). “Stephen hill Rick Ghrimes & all the good folks within the BET OFFICE & employees created that present. All i did was capitalize off of what they created and made it mine. I might know…. I’m mr 106! I might by no means take away from someones creativity.”
Wow added in a since-deleted tweet: “I simply want he simply do his personal thang w out having to convey me up. I want dude the very best of luck in his profession and in life. We did some superb issues however that chapter is closed.”
106 & Park, based mostly on the present’s location at East 106th Avenue and Park Avenue, premiered on September 11, 2000 with A J. Calloway and Marie “Free” Wright. Bow Wow turned the host of this system on October 1, 2012 and stayed on as “Mr. 106 & Park” till its cancelation on November 14, 2014.
