Nancy: I certainly didn’t realize back then that Carrie was a film people would feel so deeply, be affected by, and continue to identify with 50 years later. The idea of being “the other” — everybody who’s a teenager feels that to a small degree.
I feel very emotional about it because it launched my career, and I didn’t know I was meeting my future husband. I didn’t know that I would go on to do all these films with Brian that I’m also still talking about, that are really iconic.
I’m thrilled that Carrie is still so beloved by so many people. When you’re making a film, and you’re young, you’re just so happy to be working as an actor. You’re not even thinking about what it means.
Now I see how many people resonate with it, particularly queer audiences. My brother was gay, and so there’s a lot of emotion connected to that for me. Going to Queer Fest makes me so happy, because I know Chris is an icon, which I love.
I’m really honored that I was part of it.
