David Bowie had such an affinity for Australia, he even bought an Elizabeth Bay apartment back in 1983.
But it remained empty as he spent time exploring the outback and tropical Queensland throughout the decade.
He once told the Sydney Morning Herald, “I would come over for a month or so at a time,” he says, “It was really, really fabulous. I loved being there. It was just a great place to be.”
He ended up selling the apartment, based in the Kincoppal Building, in 1992, after his marriage to model Iman.
But his love for our country didn’t mean he was blind to negative aspects, staking his first political stance through song in the music video for his song Let’s Dance, which was filmed in Sydney in rural New South Wales sheep- farming town Carinda.
