Clea sets her return to the mortal realm! The latest rumor for Avengers: Doomsday suggests that Charlize Theron is set to make her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The ending of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was one of the most unusual in the MCU, hinting at behind-the-scenes tension over how to balance consequences with setting up future storylines. One of the biggest signs of this, according to fans, was the sudden introduction of Charlize Theron as Clea, a longtime love interest of Doctor Strange in the comics.
The moment she was introduced, fans assumed that Clea would return sometime in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. While there’s been little discussion about Charlize Theron’s role in the MCU since then, it does seem as though that speculation is on point. Is Charlize Theron In Avengers: Doomsday?
Given Clea’s last appearance had her dragging Doctor Strange along to fix an incursion he caused, this rumor is far from the most shocking thing in the world. However, given how big a star Charlize Theron is, the big question is how big a role the character will have when she makes her return in Avengers: Doomsday. Especially given the character is (spoilers) the niece of Dormammu, one of the most powerful mystic characters in the MCU.
Most likely, Charlize Theron’s Clea will serve as a mentor to Doctor Strange in Avengers: Doomsday. Not in the way of the mystic arts, but rather in terms of what incursions are and how to stop them. So while she won’t play a direct role in the film’s major conflict, it’s more likely than not that her guidance will (literally) shape the MCU and its timelines going forward.
