Chicago P.D. has finally shed light on the mysterious absence of Patrick John Flueger‘s Adam Ruzek. After a suspenseful hiatus, Ruzek’s return has fans buzzing, eager to uncover the mystery of his vanishing act. Here’s what led to Ruzek’s sudden disappearance, explained in the Season 13 mid-season premiere.
Where was Patrick John Flueger’s Ruzek in Chicago PD Season 13?
Chicago P.D.’s Adam Ruzek, played by Patrick John Flueger, has been absent from the NBC series since October 2025. Much to the happiness of anticipating fans, Flueger was spotted on set in mid-December. As speculated, Ruzek has returned to the Chicago P.D. fold.
Here’s a small refresh on the events that led to Ruzek’s sudden exit:
As Imani’s life hung in the balance at Raymond Bell’s house, Voight sprang into action, calling in every available man, including Ruzek. But instead came the news of his dad’s Alzheimer’s emergency. Detective Kim Burgess informed that her husband was at the facility, tending to his father’s needs.
Last seen in the October 29 episode, portrayer Patrick John Flueger had taken a leave of absence in the same month to handle a personal matter. While the reason remains unknown, writers had tweaked the script to weave Ruzek’s absence into the storyline. However, as per Deadline’s sources, Flueger was said to be going through “a difficult period personally.”
Ending the wait for Adam Ruzek’s fans, Flueger’s co-star Marina Squerciati (Kim Burgess) shared a photo from set, wishing the actor a happy birthday on Instagram on December 11, 2025. The photo also featured co-actors LaRoyce Hawkins (Kevin Atwater) and Benjamin Levy Aguilar (Dante Torres).
After its return for the rest of the season, Chicago P.D. Season 13 will air every Wednesday on NBC. Viewers can also watch it on other streaming providers that carry NBC, like Peacock, Fubo, etc.
