Is Chris Evans actually not in Avengers: Doomsday? The actor speaks on his remorse in not being asked to return in the MCU’s upcoming crossover.
When it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would be playing Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, many fans assumed that it was also confirmation that the entire original Avengers cast would be making their return as well. The most common idea was that actors like Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, whose MCU characters are dead or out of commission, would be playing evil variants of themselves from across the multiverse. Though the exact details weren’t as important as the assuredness that the fanbase espoused them with.
Now, a complete return may not be as likely as fans first believed. During a recent promotional tour for his upcoming film The Materialists, Chris Evans revealed that he’s disheartened that he isn’t going to return as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, seemingly signaling that the actor is truly done with the MCU for good.
“Yeah, I talk to [The Russo Brothers] all the time. It’s where Pedro [Pascal] is right now. I mean, it’s sad to be away. ” Evans remarked to ScreenRant “It’s sad to not be back with the band, but I’m sure they’re doing something incredible, and I’m sure it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren’t invited to the party”
Is Chris Evans In Avengers: Doomsday?
Of course, for anyone paying attention, this goes against a report released by The Wrap last year confirming that Chris Evans would be making his return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday. While the report could be wrong, it’s more likely than not that Evans is going to be in the project, using his promotion for The Materialists as a smokescreen until its his time to appear on set.
That being said, it’s also possible that Chris Evans isn’t in Avengers: Doomsday at all. The project is already packed to the gills with MCU characters new and old. As such, Marvel might be saving the actor’s return for Avengers: Secret Wars as to make it a true celebration of the entire franchise thus far. Though even then, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Evans appear in a post-credits scene!
