Nominees slated for the 30th Annual Critics Choice Awards have been released, not withstanding a mix of controversy and historically close races.
Minor controversy shrouds the awards show in terms of genre definitions and standardization as Last Week Tonight withJohnOliver, a long-running and highly acclaimed talk show, was reclassified as ‘Best Comedy’ in lieu of ’Best Scripted Variety Series’ category. This move, aimed at amending the Critics Choice Awards’ genre classifications to reflect those of the Emmys, was met with an outright withdrawal of the five-time Critics Choice Award winner by HBO, at least for this upcoming award season.
