Crystal Kung-Minkoff is looking back at her off-camera conversation with Annemarie Wiley, during which Annemarie claimed she slammed the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast as “uneducated and shallow.”
After Annemarie, 40, made the claims against Crystal, 40, on the latest episode of the show, Crystal detailed the chat they had without the cameras as her co-stars revealed if they believed Annemarie and Annemarie suggested Crystal was “triggered” by her because her husband, Rob Minkoff, 61, didn’t support her dreams of working in the medical field.
“She was pissed at me, so she found a way to get back at me for calling her out,” Crystal said of Annemarie’s claims on a recent episode of the RHOBH: After Show.
Although Crystal said she’s a “very social person,” she denied calling herself a “socialite,” saying only, “If that’s what being social is, then I guess I am.”
As for Sutton Stracke, 52, who seemed to embrace the socialite label by revealing she’s “been to the Met Gala seven times” and is “on the board of American Ballet Theater,” she looked back on an off-camera chat she had with Crystal.
“She said, ‘I’m not a socialite. Socialites are in New York. It’s an East Coast thing,’” Sutton shared, proceeding to admit that she felt Annemarie’s claims against Crystal were true.
“I could hear [Crystal] saying something like that,” she said.
Kyle Richards, 55, also felt Crystal accused the cast of being “uneducated and shallow.”
“Crystal does take a lot of pride in being a socialite. She actually, that’s what she is. I do believe that she said that. I do,” Kyle noted. “[But] I don’t care. If she wants to say I’m uneducated, I did not go to college. I’m also very intelligent and very successful, so I don’t really care if someone says I’m uneducated.”
“She probably did call us all uneducated,” Erika Jayne, 52, agreed. “There’s many ways to be educated. What? Formally educated? Street-wise? Sexual knowledge? Financial? Spiritual?”
Erika then questioned why Crystal would want to be on the show if she felt her castmates weren’t educated.
“[If] we’re all so dumb, what are you doing here? That makes you dumb too,” she stated.
While certain RHOBH cast members felt that Crystal did speak ill of them, Crystal denied having done so as she shared details about the conversation she had with Annemarie off the show.
“When I met her, she had asked me, because she watched the show, so she goes, ‘Do you guys hang out with each other all the time?’” Crystal recalled. “And I said, ’Some people hang out, and some people I might see them the next season,’ I said, ‘It looks like everyone is super social, but there’s more people that have big groups of friends or their tight group.’ So I said, ‘I’m someone who has a lot of friends. I’m very social. I’m one of the more social people because I’m from L.A.’ And she took that to change it into I said, ‘Everyone is not a socialite. But I am.’”
Still, Annemarie insisted that was not the truth.
“She’s like, ‘They are uneducated and pretend socialites.’ She’s like, ‘I’m the only real actual socialite in the group,’” Annemarie explained.
During another segment of the RHOBH: After Show, the cast reacted to Annemarie suggesting she made Crystal relevant.
“No, I think I did,” Sutton corrected. “We’re just letting Crystal be Crystal. Calm and quiet. Now Annemarie’s not having that.”
“I do think that Annemarie challenged Crystal and made Crystal speak up,” replied Garcelle Beauvais, 57.
According to Crystal herself, she didn’t understand how Annemarie felt she had made her relevant. After all, “No one’s ever met her before.”
“The content makes no sense to me,” Crystal noted. “Saying that I called everyone non-socialites when I’m a socialite saying that now she’s part of the group and I’m relevant, it’s all sort of nonsense, and when that happens, I feel like it’s disingenuous, I disconnect. I’m just not that person, so I just find it comical. I can only defend myself so much. It’s just kind of an absurd comment, but, you know.”
In closing, Annemarie suspected Crystal was “triggered” by her presence.
“Crystal wanted to go to medical school,” she revealed. “Sorry, Crystal, that you decided to marry a man [who] didn’t support your dreams. Crystal probably sees me, is super triggered, ‘look at her with her,’ sorry, my life’s pretty awesome, ‘and she is a thriving medical professional, [I] wish I would’ve been able to do that.’ So, of course, she’s triggered by it.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 13 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
