Anime fandom is buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming release of Yukinobu Tatsu‘s DAN DA DAN anime adaptation, a unique blend of paranormal mystery, intense battles, and romantic comedy. The manga has already captured the hearts of many, and its adaptation into an anime series is set to bring the story to life.
The English dub of the series is generating particular excitement, with the premiere scheduled for Anime NYC on August 24. Abby Trott and A.J. Beckles will bring the characters of Momo and Okarun to life, being revealed as the first English dub cast members earlier today. The premiere event promises to be a star-studded affair, with composer Kensuke Ushio, voice actors Shion Wakayama and Natsuki Hanae, and producer Hiroyuki Aoi all scheduled to be in attendance.
DANDADAN also boasts a talented Japanese voice cast with Shion Wakayama voicing Momo Ayase, while Natsuki Hanae lends his voice to Okarun. Mayumi Tanaka will play Turbo-Granny, and Kazuya Nakai will be Alien Serpo. Nana Mizuki and Ayane Sakura provide the voices for Seiko and Aira Shiratori, respectively. Completing the main cast, Kaito Ishikawa portrays Jiji, also known as Jin Enjоji.
The series’ October premiere on TBS and MBS’s Super Animeism TURBO programming block in Japan is highly anticipated. However, international fans won’t be left out, as Netflix will stream the anime worldwide, and Crunchyroll will also offer the series to its subscribers shortly after its Japanese TV premiere.
GKIDS’ acquisition of the theatrical and additional video rights ensures that DAN DA DAN will be accessible in various formats, including theatrical screenings of the first three episodes that will begin on September 13th in select US theaters. Crunchyroll describes the anime:
This is a story about Momo, a high school girl who comes from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult fanatic. After Momo rescues Okarun from being bullied, they begin talking. However, an argument ensues between them since Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens exist, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts exist.
To prove to each other what they believe in is real, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital where a UFO has been spotted and Okarun goes to a tunnel rumored to be haunted. To their surprise, they each encounter overwhelming paranormal activities that transcend comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to overcome these new dangers! Their fateful love begins as well!?

The anime boasts an impressive assembly of talent. At the helm is Fuga Yamashiro and the narrative is crafted under the watchful eye of Hiroshi Seko, a versatile writer who has been widely celebrated for their anime scriptwriting. The anime’s incidental soundtrack is entrusted to the hottest composer in anime of the moment in kensuke ushio, while Japanese group Creepy Nuts are contributing the opening theme, their new song “Otonoke”. Character design will be handled by Naoyuki Onda, with Yoshimichi Kameda‘s expertise in designing otherworldly beings contributing to the overall character designs.
