Daniel MacPherson is entering the ring for the role of a lifetime in The Beast, the upcoming MMA action drama that promises to deliver both bruising fight sequences and emotional stakes when it hits theaters this month.
Directed by Tyler Atkins, The Beast stars MacPherson as Patton James, a once-feared mixed martial arts champion who has long since walked away from the cage. But when danger threatens his younger brother, Patton is forced out of retirement for one final fight putting his body, legacy, and family on the line in a brutal showdown against a reigning champion determined to destroy what remains of his reputation.
The film positions itself as more than a standard sports comeback story, blending high-stakes family drama with the visceral world of professional MMA. The newly released trailer teases a hard-hitting, emotionally charged journey of redemption, sacrifice, and brotherhood anchored by MacPherson’s physically transformative lead performance.
Joining MacPherson in the cast is Academy Award winner Russell Crowe as Patton’s former trainer and mentor, Sammy, alongside Luke Hemsworth, Bren Foster, Mojean Aria, Kelly Gale, George Burgess, and Amy Shark in her feature film debut.
Co-written by Crowe and David Frigerio, The Beast was produced in collaboration with ONE Championship, with portions of the film shot during live MMA events in Bangkok to add authenticity to its fight sequences and atmosphere.

MacPherson spoke to us about undergoing years of fight training to prepare for the physically demanding role, immersing himself in boxing, Muay Thai, and jiu-jitsu to bring realism to the performance. The result appears to be a raw and grounded sports drama aiming to appeal to both action fans and MMA enthusiasts alike.
With its combination of explosive fight choreography, emotional family stakes, and a veteran cast led by Crowe and MacPherson, The Beast looks poised to be one of the year’s most adrenaline-fueled theatrical releases. The Beast opens in theaters nationwide on April 10, 2026.
