The search for the next Superman is on, as Warner Bros. and DC Studios prepare for James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney and Andrew Richardson are among the actors vying for the iconic role of Kal-El.
David Corenswet, known for his roles in The Politician and Hollywood, has emerged as a frontrunner in the Superman: Legacy casting race. THR brings word that he has advanced to the screen test stage, indicating a strong likelihood of donning the red cape. Meanwhile, Nicholas Hoult, famous for X-Men and Mad Max: Fury Road, has also been connected to the project. Interestingly, Hoult has been linked to both Superman and his arch-nemesis Lex Luthor.
Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, previously rumored to be in contention for Superman, has not participated in the casting process. The reasons for his absence remain undisclosed.
The casting process for Superman’s love-interest Lois Lane is also heating up. Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, Phoebe Dynevor and Samara Weaving are among the actresses being considered for the part. Brosnahan, star of the critically-acclaimed series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is said to have delivered an “outstanding” audition. However, at 32, Brosnahan may be considered slightly older for the role compared to the other candidates.
Superman: Legacy will not only focus on the central characters but also introduce new faces to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. THR indicates that the movie will feature numerous DC Comics heroes who are already established when Legacy begins.
