One of the most important chapters in the franchise’s 60-year history, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is still to this day one of the most beloved series in science fiction. Running for seven seasons between 1993 and 1999, the groundbreaking spinoff pushed the boundaries of Star Trek in ways that few fans could have anticipated, introducing a darker, more morally complex side to Roddenberry’s beloved universe.
Led by Avery Brooks as Benjamin Sisko, the franchise’s first Black lead, Deep Space Nine introduced an unforgettable ensemble of characters, including Kira Nerys, Odo, Jadzia Dax, Quark, and the returning Worf. Unlike the traditionally heroic crews of the Enterprise, these characters were flawed, morally ambiguous, and willing to challenge Starfleet’s ideals.
Between its ambitious Dominion War storyline and pioneering serialized storytelling, Deep Space Nine helped redefine what Star Trek could be. Now, more than 27 years after its controversial finale, the beloved series is officially returning with an exciting new sequel titled The Peacemakers, arriving this Fall.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is officially returning on November 17, 2026, with an all-new sequel titled The Peacemakers, which promises to revisit some of the lingering consequences of the Dominion War while bringing back one of the original series’ most important characters.
Written by Una McCormack, The Peacemakers takes place five years after the conclusion of the Dominion War, placing its story roughly around 2378, following the events of Deep Space Nine‘s 1999 finale, “What You Leave Behind.” Rather than centering on Captain Benjamin Sisko, the new story follows his son, Jake Sisko, who has returned to Earth after an extensive journey through the Gamma Quadrant.
Now an accomplished writer, Jake is working on a book chronicling the aftermath of the Dominion’s defeat and the changing political landscape of the Gamma Quadrant. However, he’s now under scrutiny by Starfleet Intelligence, while the Bajoran people are fascinated by his connection to their departed Emissary.
Jake travels to Cardassia Prime after receiving an invitation to an arts festival, where his troubles end up following him, with various Cardassians hoping to exploit him for their own gains. Eventually, Jake joins an archaeological expedition into the Cardassian desert, only for the seemingly peaceful excursion to take a deadly turn when members of the isolated group begin turning up murdered.
You can pre-order The Peacemakers on Amazon here.
The novel’s setting is particularly significant and will be interesting for returning fans, given Cardassia’s losses during the Dominion War and its complicated relationship with the Federation. It also promises to revisit some of the moral ambiguity mentioned above that made Deep Space Nine so beloved in the first place.
McCormack is no stranger to the franchise, having previously written ten different Star Trek novels, including The Never-Ending Sacrifice, The Crimson Shadow, and The Last Best Hope. Her extensive experience with Cardassian society and the wider Star Trek universe makes her a perfect fit for this upcoming continuation.
Published by Pocket Books/Star Trek (an imprint of Simon & Schuster), The Peacemakers is a 320-page novel that will be available as a trade paperback for $18.00, an ebook for $13.99, and an unabridged audiobook as well. Preorders are already available through the publisher and participating retailers, as well as the Amazon link above.
For longtime Deep Space Nine fans, The Peacemakers is an opportunity to revisit the aftermath of the Dominion War and explore how its consequences continue to shape the next generation of the Sisko family, and it will hopefully scratch the DS9 itch that never seems to go away even after almost three decades.
