While Doechii is in super high demand right now, she still hasn’t technically released her debut album — but she promises that’s about to change.
“I can tell you that it’s coming very soon,” the rapper, 26, exclusively told Us Weekly while attending Billboard’s Women in Music event on Saturday, March 29. “And I can tell you that it’s an experience.”
When asked to share further information, however, the Grammy winner demurred.
“I can’t go into the details, but it’s an experience,” she teased.
Doechii received Billboard’s Woman of the Year Award at the event, which was held at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California.
“I cannot believe it was just two years ago I stood on this stage right here and accepted the Billboard Rising Star Award. I had literally performed so hard I danced my shoes off and had to hop up to the mic,” she told the crowd on Saturday while accepting her award. “And here I am. That moment reflects how I approach my career — always go full out, always go hard and always be fab.”
The “Denial Is a River” artist went on to explain why the Women in Music event is still necessary, even as female artists continue to flourish.
“Lack of inclusion and sexism are still issues in this industry. And that’s a problem. Which is why I’m grateful we have Billboard Women in Music,” she explained. “This is our motherf***ing night to rightfully come together to acknowledge each other, support each other and to celebrate. We are the creators, we are the executives, we are the innovators who are just as central to this industry as the men. Clock it.”
Doechii is still riding high on the success of her latest mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal, which dropped in August 2024 to widespread critical acclaim. She was nominated for three Grammys at this year’s ceremony, including Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance for “Nissan Altima.” She took home the trophy for Best Rap Album, becoming only the third woman to win in the category.
“I don’t want to make this long. But this category was introduced in 1989, and two women have won. Lauryn Hill — three women have won!” Doechii exclaimed while accepting the award in February. “Lauryn Hill, Cardi B and Doechii. I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape. I bared my life. I went through so much. I dedicated myself to sobriety, and God told me that I would be rewarded and that he would show me just how good it can get.”
