Don Cheadle may be cursed! The Marvel Cinematic Universe star gives his thoughts on Rhodey’s Secret Invasion twist and potential future in Armor Wars.
One of the most perplexing moments in the MCU was the reveal that Rhodey was a Skull in Secret Invasion. It was an idea bandied around fan communities to explain why Don Cheadle took over for Terrance Howard after the first Iron Man movie. However, the reveal becoming a reality didn’t sit right with fans, and it seems it didn’t sit quite right with Cheadle either.
“Uh… you know, there was no… it wasn’t a demand. It was a request,” Cheadle explained to TV Line in a recent chat. “’What do you think about playing this?’ And it was to set up stuff in the following thing. So, if the following thing happens, and all those things were set up, then that’s one thing. If, as you said, it doesn’t, then we can talk about how I feel about it after!”
While Don Cheadle didn’t outright say that he hated the way Rhodey was handled in Secret Invasion, it’s clear that there were bigger plans that would make the choice sit better with him. The mystery MCU project referred to above is likely Armor Wars, the long-awaited series-turned-film starring Cheadle himself. However, those plans may be less than set in stone.
Will Armor Wars Ever Get Made?
Armor Wars is an enigma in the MCU. Official news on the project dried up over two years ago, with only rumors left to sustain hype for the project. Many believed the project was cancelled outright given the changing priorities of the studio. It seems Don Cheadle isn’t even sure about the film’s status, admitting that the universe is currently in a period of flux.
“You can find out and let me know. [Laughs] I don’t know, I’m not sure where anything is right now. I think things are going through a lot of changes, and we’ll see what happens, we’ll see what it is.”
Given the MCU had to slow its pace down, and prerequisite projects like Secret Invasion and Ironheart were pushed further and further back, it makes sense that Armor Wars is sitting in an ethereal realm unknown by even Don Cheadle himself. Though given how interesting the project could turn out to be, here’s to hoping it sees the light of day sooner rather than later.
There is currently no release date slated for Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming project, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
