Avengers: Doomsday is set to be one of the biggest Marvel movies yet, with a massive lineup of 27 characters crossing over from different corners of the MCU. Among them is the return of Namor, played by Tenoch Huerta, who made his debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Now, the actor is opening up about how he found out he was in the movie, and what fans can expect from his role.
During a recent appearance on La Resolana Con El Capi, Huerta revealed that the news of his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday came to him at the very last minute.
“We were waiting on the green light [from Marvel] and my agents in the U.S. were not sure about the news [of my return],” Huerta said of his casting in Avengers: Doomsday.
“They practically told us around 12 at night, and at 5:30 in the morning, the [cast reveal] livestream started, and they told us, ‘Hey, the news is about to drop.’ It was surprising and it was cool.”
But as much as fans might be hyped to see Namor back in action, Huerta was honest about the reality of his screentime. With so many heroes and villains in the mix, his role is going to be more limited compared to his central part in Wakanda Forever.
“There are twentysomething characters involved in the story, which means we are each going to have smaller roles because there needs to be space for all the characters and all the universes,” he explained. “This makes it a much more simpler role, in terms of time and energy of making a film like this.”
Even if it’s a smaller part, it’ll be interesting to see how the creative team utilizes him in the story. Alongside Huerta’s Namor, Avengers: Doomsday will feature some major players, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man.
The roster keeps growing with Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent, Tenoch Huerta as Namor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
Avengers: Doomsday will also feature the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
