Will Avengers: Doomsday have the best set of any movie? The latest report about Marvel’s upcoming film reveals millions were dropped on a single filming location.
Over the past few years, the concept of a “set” has become much more nebulous in the world of filmmaking. These days, most big-budget Marvel projects are filmed on locked down soundstages with bluescreens and overworked VFX supervisors to avoid leaks. Which is why it’s been refreshing, albeit odd, to return to the world of set leaks with Avengers: Doomsday.
While many assume that filming on-location is ultimately cheaper than recreating a set from the ground-up using VFX, that’s not always true. Perhaps the biggest example of that comes in the form of Windsor Great Park, which is the greenery outside of the iconic Windsor Castle in England. A report from The Irish Sun reveals that Marvel has paid “multi-millions” just to film on the grass outside of the castle.
Why Did Marvel Spend Millions To Film In Windsor Great Park?
The thing most fans are likely speculating about is what character will be living inside of the castle represented by the iconic Windsor Castle. While many assume that it will be Doctor Doom, especially given the character will be the main villain of Avengers: Doomsday, it’s also possible that an alternate version of Magneto will call the fortress a home. This especially as Marvel likely doesn’t want Sir Ian McKellen doing backflips on the green!
Though the true reason Marvel made this choice doesn’t come down to Avengers: Doomsday, but their broader strategy going forward. It’s no secret that most blockbuster productions have shifted to London these days. By spending multiple millions on a set, some of which will go to the Royal Crown, the studio is likely assuring that they have good standing with the ruling monarchs of the country heading into the next decade of productions.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
