EXCLUSIVE: New York-based sales company Visit Films has sold Geoff McFetridge: Drawing A Life, which debuted at SXSW, and New York Film Festival title The Practice to Gravitas Ventures for North American distribution.
Gravitas Ventures will release both films in July on all platforms.
The Practice (La Práctica) is directed by Martin Rejtman (Silvia Prieto, The Magic Gloves) and premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival before playing fests around the circuit, including New York Film Festival and BFI London. The film follows Gustavo, a recently separated yoga instructor, as he must deal with increasingly absurd situations and relationships to land back on his feet. Starring are Esteban Bigliardi (The Delinquents, Society of the Snow), and Camila Hirane (Fugitives). The Practice is a co-production of Un Puma, Quijote Films, Rosa Filmes, Pandora Film Produktion, África, in association with Arte/ZDF. It was produced by Joaquim Sapinho, Victoria Marotta, Christoph Friedel, Florencia Larrea, Marta Alves, Jerónimo Quevedo, Giancarlo Nasi, Claudia Steffen, Fernando Bascuñán and Martín Rejtman.
Geoff McFetridge: Drawing a Life landed the audience award at SXSW. The doc, directed by Dan Covert, is described as a poetic and intimate look into the life and work of one of the most visionary artists of his time, while also exploring the universal questions of what makes a fulfilling life. It stars Geoff McFetridge and features interviews of Spike Jonze, Sofia Coppola, Sarah DeVincentis, Andrew Paynter, and Bill Powers. Executive producer is Spike Jonze, and it was produced by Covert’s Production Company Dress Code.
Gravitas today said it is “proud to continue its support of the documentary art form” through the release of Geoff McFetridge: Drawing a Life. The company added that it is “excited” to expand its “reach into distributing strong foreign language titles from the film festival circuit” with the release of The Practice.
The deal was negotiated by Visit’s President Ryan Kampe and Gravitas Ventures’ Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Operations Bill Guentzler.
Kampe added: “It is a pleasure to continue our long-standing commercial and artistic relationship with Gravitas and now, with long-time festival collaborator Bill. We trust Gravitas will get these wonderful films out to an eager audience on a wide scale.”
