Fire up those resumes. Boom! Studios is hiring a new editor in chief as longtime eic Matt Gagnon is leaving the company on March 1st.
The announcement was made via the Random House Publishing Group.
Gagnon was at Boom for 17 years, 14 of them spent as editor in chief, in that time overseeing most of the moves that established Boom as a force in both comic books and graphic novels, from Adventure Time to Something is Killing the Children.
“A truly epic journey that started for me in 2008 at the age of 27 now finds me at 44, much changed and feeling so grateful for the legacy I’m leaving behind,” said Gagnon in a statement. “The time is right for me to turn the page. To my larger comic book community that’s been one of the most consistent throughlines of my life, a heartfelt thank you. This next chapter will continue to find me building stories with the people I care about, championing creators and lifting up the next generation, which has always been important to me.”
Boom! publisher Michael Kelly also had words of praise. “While I only had the opportunity to work with Matt for a short time, his reputation at BOOM! as well as within the industry at large is the stuff of legend. He will certainly be missed, but we wish him well and look forward to hearing about his future success.”
We predicted just a few days ago that one of the business stories to watch for 2025 (already an eventful news year!) would be changes at Boom as it becomes more integrated into being part of PRH. And here’s the first sign of that prediction coming true.
