Elle Macpherson has confessed she burned her wedding dress in rage.
Speaking on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie show, the Aussie icon opened up about how she coped with her divorce from French photographer Gilles Bensimon.
While discussing her new book, Elle, the model was asked by host Wippa, “You share the idea of burning a wedding dress, Elle, which I think a lot of people would have liked to have done in time! What did you burn?”
“It was an Azzedine Alaïa dress, which was made for me and by one of the greatest couturiers of the world,” she replied.

Macpherson then shared a twist in the story.
“The embarrassing thing was, many years later, the Azzedine museum asked me for the dress,” she said.
“But I couldn’t tell them it was stuck to the bar on the brownstone that I was living on Ninth Street New York City like only nylon would stick to a bar!”
“Did the Fire Brigade get called if you were burning it?” Ritchie asked?

“Well, they didn’t have the smoke alarms like they do now … the fire hazards were different in the 80s and 90s,” McPherson replied.
“But I think it was just a wonderful indication of how frustrated and angry and desperate I felt and it is so, you know, in-your-face to freaking burn your wedding dress.
“I think the remarkable thing is I got through it and I thrived.

“It was this turning point in my life… even though at the moment it felt very traumatic and dramatic, it actually turned out to be an extraordinary turning point!”
Macpherson also opened up about her experience with breast cancer, giving fans an update on her health.
“It wasn’t really a ‘battle’. I mean, the battle was coming to terms with everybody else’s fear, because cancer is a subject that we’re so many people are afraid of,” she said.
“So [I say] my recovery from breast cancer, and I’m happy to say that I’m seven years in clinical remission, as they would say.
“You know, the hardest part was coming to the decision, first of all, the diagnosis, but the next part was, well, what do I do about it? It was such a magnificent story of rebirth for me.”
