Elton John is opening up about not being able to see due to his deteriorating eyesight.
The legendary singer-songwriter was diagnosed with a “severe eye infection” almost a year ago, leading to loss of vision in his right eye.
In a new interview with The Times, the Rocket Man singer said he could still see people when talking to them, but was not able to see the TV or read.

“I can’t see my boys playing rugby and soccer, and it has been a very stressful time because I’m used to soaking it all up,” he shared.
He has two sons, Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12, with husband David Furnish.
“It’s distressing. You get emotional, but you have to get used to it because I’m lucky to have the life I have,” he added.

“I still have my wonderful family, and I can still see something out of [my left eye]. So you say to yourself, ‘Just get on with it.'”
John first confirmed the news in an interview four months ago with ABC News‘ Robin Roberts on Good Morning America.
”It’s been a while since I’ve done anything… I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France,” John said during the candid chat.

”It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.
“So there’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment.”
”We’re taking an initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on,” he added.

However he clarified at the Golden Globes while on stage, and before cracking a joke.
“There’s been a lot of stories going on around about my regressive eyesight, and I just wanted to reassure everybody that it’s not as bad as it seems,” he said.
He then quipped, “I’m so pleased to be here with my cohost, Rihanna,” while standing alongside singer Brandi Carlile.
