Eric Dane has revealed why he really missed his planned appearance at the 2025 Emmy awards, where he was scheduled to present an award alongside his Grey’s Anatomy co-star Jesse Williams.
Fans were left concerned after the 52-year-old dropped out of the engagement at the last minute, particularly given his health battle with motor neurone disease (MND).
In an interview with The Washington Post, the actor clarified why he had to back out.

Speaking of his diagnosis, which is also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, Dane shared: “ALS is a nasty disease… So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head. I missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to.”
Also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, Dane revealed his MND diagnosis in April.
“It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues I thought would have a been special moment,” the Euphoria actor said.

“I was a really upset about it, but you know, there was nothing I could do about it.”
Williams, for his part, also missed his co-star, speaking about Dane’s strength to reporters before the Emmy Awards ceremony.
”He’s solid, the man’s just solid. We have to be careful as men to still take care of ourselves, and he’s got a perfect balance going. That’s my guy,” Williams said.

The Hotel Costiera star ended up presenting the award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series alone, passing it off to the winner, Adam Randall for Slow Horses.
Dane first revealed his diagnosis with motor neurone disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in April.
He has since been advocating for more research and legislation to help those living with the disease.
Dane made his first appearance after missing the Emmys at Capitol Hill, going to Washington, D.C. to advocate for the reauthorisation of the Accelerating Access to Critical Therapies (ACT) for ALS.
Passed in 2021, the ACT bill requires the US Food and Drug Administration to create and implement a five-year plan to develop and investigate ways to treat and cure MND.
Dane is part of the advocates trying to get the bill reauthorised for another five years of research and funding.
