It isn’t just the United States that releases monthly reports on video gaming sales. The GSD also publishes reports on video gaming sales for Europe. In fact, earlier today, they released their latest monthly report. This data is for the month of September 2023, and also includes sales from the United Kingdom.
Compared with the year before, video gaming sales were down in September in Europe. It is worth noting, however, that this was mainly because September 2022 was a five-week month, one more week than September 2023 was. Another reason sourced was EA Sports FC 24. The game was #1 on the European GSD September 2023 top 10 charts, but sales are currently 10% down compared with last year’s launch of FIFA ’23.
As for gaming hardware, the trends have been very similar to previous months. The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in Europe, followed by the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series consoles. The software may have been lagging in sales, but sales of hardware didn’t have this problem. They were up 38% compared to the same 4 week period in September of last year.
