Something strange is happening at the White House—and for once, it’s not just politics as usual.
Actress and comic book writer Hannah Rose May takes readers on a journey into Washington, D.C.’s most infamous home, the White House—and into the jaws of the demonic—in her latest IDW series, The Exorcism at 1600 Penn, brought to life with the help of Vanesa Del Rey (artist), Jordie Bellaire (colorist), and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (letterer). By blending sharp political satire and unnerving supernatural horror, Exorcism at 1600 Penn sinks its teeth into the rot beneath the rhetoric, offering a terrifyingly timely series exploring what would happen if an unholy force took root in the White House.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, The Beat caught up with May to discuss the twisted inspirations behind Exorcism at 1600 Penn, how she balances horror and satire, and why this is the perfect story for our time (even if it was written before a woman ran for president). Oh, and for fun, we also discussed that time she was an animal foster parent.
