The music world is in mourning after the sudden loss of rapper Fatman Scoop, who died after collapsing on stage. He was 53 years old.
The family of the rapper, who’s real name was Isaac Freeman III, posted a tribute to him on Instagram.
“Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life,” they shared, “FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle, and a friend.

“FatMan Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”
One of the rapper’s most famous collaborations was with Missy Elliot for her 2005 hit Lose Control, which won him a Grammy.
Elliot lead tributes with “prayers for Fatman Scoop family for STRENGTH during such a difficult time.”

“Fatman Scoop VOICE & energy have contributed to SO MANY songs that made people feel HAPPY & want to DANCE for over 2 decades everytime you hear them… His IMPACT is HUGE & will be NEVER be forgotten,” she added.
Singer Ciara, who also collaborated on the track, wrote that the rapper was “truly one of the best voices in hip-hop.
“I’m so glad I got to experience your greatness! We will all miss you greatly”,” she wrote.
Ludacris added to the chorus with, “Scoop was one of those people that reminded you what the word LOVE Truly means. It’s an ACTION, and with his ACTIONS he exuded the PUREST form of Passion For HIP HOP. Every human being that he came Into contact with felt that LOVE & that PASSION. THIS is the Type Of LEGACY WE should ALL continue from here on until ETERNITY.”
Timbaland, who’s song Drop featured the rapper and was the opening song on his tour, was simply “lost for words.”
DJ D-Nice remembered Be Faithful rapper as “always kind to me. This is a major loss for the culture. My condolences to all of his loved ones.”

The rapper had recently collaborated with Dyce Payso, with the music video for their new song Let It Go premiering last week.. Payso shared that he was “lost for words” after the rapper’s sudden death.
“We was just together a couple of weeks ago shooting our video. You said you’d fly in just for me and thinking about it now I’m so grateful that we got that time and made something so dope and crazy.
“Thank you for being my friend, a Big Bro, a mentor, and being apart of my music. This is my biggest record and I’m so honored and thankful that it was with you. These are the best memories of you I’ll keep forever. I I [sic] promise to keep your spirit alive. RIP Fatman Scoop.”
Scoop was performing at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut when fans captured him collapsing mid-performance.
Hamden mayor Lauren Garrett said the rapper was taken by ambulance to hospital after crowd members attempted to perform life-saving measures. She thanked fans and paramedics for their help in a statement shared on Facebook.
“On behalf of the Town of Hamden, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Isaac Freeman, known as Fatman Scoop,” she posted on Facebook.

“He was a wonderful performer with a wide following as evidenced by the thousands of fans that came to see what would be his last performance at Hamden Town Center Park.”
Fans are also in mourning, with one recording one of the rapper’s last moments.
“His last words were ‘If You Came To Party, Make Some Noise'” they wrote, “Damn RIP Fatman Scoop.”
Another paid tribute to one of Scoop’s most famous hits, 1999s Be Faithful.
“The ‘Be Faithful’ party break was the backbone of club nights/partying in 1999 going into the 2000s. It would change the entire molecular makeup of a dance floor in mere seconds. A whole magic wand. RIP Fatman Scoop. NYC has lost a gem.”
The rapper leaves behind two children, a son and a daughter, with his ex-wife Shanda with whom he famously filmed Man and Wife.
