“The signs? Your soul has been marked – and he will come to collect.” An official trailer has debuted for an intriguing indie creation known as The Peril at Pincer Point, made by the filmmaking duo Jake Kuhn & Noah Stratton-Twine. This first premiered at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival a few months back, where it won the NEON Auteur Award. “Experience the defining (and perhaps only) crustaceous comedy of a generation with” this trailer for a nautical odyssey. On a quest to prove his competency, an inert sound recordist finds himself entangled in a nautical prophecy on the spectral island of Pincer Point. He hears tale of a legend and sets out to record a ghost ship. This unique microbudget film stars Jack Redmayne as Jim, Alyth Ross, Os Leanse, Mike Mackenzie, Dashiell Upton, Jason Hogan, Mat Wright, Noah Stratton-Twine, Isobel Laidler, & Oliver Woolf. Described as an “offbeat, surrealist” comedy sporting a distinct vintage visual style to immerse in this story. This footage reminds me of both The Lighthouse and Rose of Nevada – two terrific films as well. This kind of made-for-nothing cinema creativity is always refreshing to encounter.
Here’s the official trailer for Kuhn & Stratton-Twine’s film The Peril at Pincer Point, from YouTube:
“What started as an inside joke has extrapolated into both bamboozling means and our wildest dreams. This ‘hodgepodge curio‘ has changed our lives, all made with the indie spirit that however few doubloons in your pocket… We made this film for pennies, and it’s changed our lives. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen.” –Directors Noah Stratton-Twine & Jake Kuhn

Via SXSW: “Jim Baitte, a layabout sound designer desperate to prove himself, is working on a new horror flick from the tyrannical yet lauded b-movie director P.W. Griffin. Accused of lacking vision and creative courage, Jim is sent to the remote island where the film was shot to capture a sound powerful enough to elevate the film’s finale. Once there, eerie local fables surface: for years, ambitious and headstrong youth have lost their souls to a ghostly sea captain for his spectral crew. As Jim entangles himself further into the bizarre locals, scenery, and the prophecy, he can’t help but ponder the ever-confirming legend, and if recording it might just cost him more than his career.” The Peril at Pincer Point is written & directed & produced by filmmakers Jake Kuhn & Noah Stratton-Twine (also of Two Big Feet), making their first feature together after many other short films. With cinematography by Murray Zev Cohen. The film initially premiered at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, and will next play at Fright Fest UK in August. No other official release date is set yet. Follow them on IG @pincerpointfilm for updates on where to see it.
