This is heartbreaking news for the Florida music community…
Rapper Lil Poppa has died at just 25 years old. The young artist, born Janarious Mykel Wheeler, was pronounced dead at 11:23 a.m. ET on Wednesday, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office in Georgia via TMZ.
As of now, his cause of death has not been released, leaving fans, friends, and the hip-hop community stunned and searching for answers.

Lil Poppa, who proudly repped Jacksonville, had been steadily building a name for himself over the last several years. Signed to Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group, he carved out his own lane with raw, emotional storytelling that resonated with listeners. Songs like Love & War, Mind Over Matter, and HAPPY TEARS showcased a vulnerability that set him apart in a crowded field.
In August, he released his 16-track album Almost Normal Again. And just days ago, he dropped a new single titled Out of Town Bae, signaling that he was still in creative motion, still pushing forward.
He was also scheduled to perform in New Orleans next month, per TMZ.
At only 25, Lil Poppa’s life and career were still unfolding. There was more music to be made, more stages to stand on, more stories to tell. But now, instead of celebrating his next move, fans are mourning the young man.
Our thoughts are with his loved ones and fans during this terrible time.
Rest in peace…
