Former Doctor Who villain actor Sacha Dhawan wants to bring back his character to face off against Ncuti Gatwa’s doctor. Doctor Who continued last year with a rebooted series that saw Gatwa play the series’ Fifteenth Doctor. Gatwa was accompanied by companion Ruby Sunday, who was portrayed by Millie Gibson. Dhawan, on the other hand, is an actor who appeared in Doctor Who season 12, playing a villain called The Master. The Master is a renegade Time Lord who has, over the course of history, been an enemy and a friend to the Doctor.
Speaking with RadioTimes, Dhawan speaks on whether he would ever come back to Doctor Who. The actor started off by joking, saying “Oh my god, I’m coming back!” but later said honestly that he would “love to come back” if given the offer, but did not outwardly state that said offer has come about yet. The actor did tease that he “thinks there’s more to play with” for the Master’s character. Check out the full quote from Dhawan below:
Oh my God, I’m coming back! I’m coming back! [I would] love to come back. There’s certain things I’ll read… I think Ncuti [Gatwa] has mentioned the Master at some point… I think there’s more to play with – and I get slightly envious seeing how much fun they’re having in Cardiff.
What This Could Mean For Doctor Who
The Master Is A Classic DW Character
As is the case with the titular Time Lord, the Master has gone through multiple iterations throughout the course of Doctor Who history. The first actor to play the character was Roger Delgado, who debuted the role in 1971. Doctor Who‘s Master character was later played by several other actors, including Michelle Gomez, who played a female version of the role in 15 episodes from 2014 to 2017. As such, it seems more likely that Doctor Who might include another generation of the Master rather than simply have Dhawan reprise the role.

The costumes on Doctor Who are colorful and character-defining. Even main villain The Master has a cool wardrobe. Here are his most stylish looks.
The Master character themself seems very likely to come back to Doctor Who based on recent trends. This current era of Doctor Who is all about bringing back the old. Returning showrunner Russell T. Davies returned David Tennant to the Whoniverse to play a reincarnated Fourteenth Doctor, and he used one of these anniversary episodes to bring back the Toymaker, a villain from the classic era of Doctor Who. As such, it seems that sticking with the tradition of the Master would be in line with the current Doctor Who sensibilities.
Our Take On Sacha Dhawan’s Possible Return
His Casting Represented A Doctor Who First
One reason why Dhawan would be more likely to return ot Doctor Who could be attributed to the series’ current casting goals. Dhawan was notably the first person of color to play the character. Likewise, Gatwa is the first Black Doctor, demonstrating how the show is committing to making a more diverse cast. As such, Davies and the rest of the Doctor Who team may be more apt to re-cast Dhawan in order to honor the momentous occasion of his original casting.
