We first met Sophia Grace Brownlee as the tiny powerhouse in a tutu who stole hearts (and scenes) on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. She was all sparkle, sass, and big vocals back then — a kid navigating viral fame before she was even old enough to understand it.
Now, at 22, she’s stepping into a very different spotlight: motherhood. And in a candid new podcast appearance, Sophia Grace is opening up about becoming a mom at 19 and whether she has any regrets about starting her family so young.

On this past Wednesday’s episode of the Private Story podcast, the British social media star reflected on welcoming her first child, son River, in March 2023. For some, 19 might sound impossibly young to take on that responsibility. But for Sophia Grace, the story is far more nuanced. She said:
“I was quite young when I had River. I was 19, which I do feel like is quite young. I don’t regret, like, doing anything because I’m quite happy with where I am now.”
There it is. No dramatic backtracking. Just honesty!
If you’ll recall, she surprised fans in October 2022 when she announced she was expecting her first baby. The internet had a lot to say at the time. Fast forward to today, and she’s now a mother of two. After River’s arrival, Sophia Grace revealed in 2024 that she was pregnant again, later giving birth to daughter Athena in January 2025. She has chosen to keep the identity of her children’s father private, drawing a firm boundary between her public persona and her personal life.
When discussing Athena’s birth, Sophia Grace acknowledged she was still young — but also more confident. She said:
“When I had Athena, I was 21, which is a bit more older. It’s obviously young to have kids, but I don’t really think there’s a right age to have kids as long as you’re ready and you’re mature enough, that’s all that matters.”
That perspective feels hard-earned. Growing up in front of millions could have easily derailed her. Instead, she seems grounded, thoughtful, and very aware of the privileges that helped make her journey possible. She openly admitted that her early success provided a financial safety net many young moms simply don’t have:
“If I wasn’t, like, I would have been struggling a lot. So, yeah, I’m blessed to have been in that situation.”
It’s a sobering acknowledgment. Fame can be fleeting, but in her case, it created stability at a crucial time. Still, money doesn’t shield anyone from fear… especially in a delivery room.
Sophia Grace revealed that River’s birth was traumatic and frightening. What began as a routine labor quickly spiraled into something much more serious. She said:
“It actually went quite bad with River. It wasn’t a nice experience. I went into labor naturally, and I was just a week early, which is common. That’s not a problem, and everything was fine. It just, kind of, got bad when you’re actually trying to push the baby out. He was getting really stressed out, and he just wouldn’t come down properly like how [babies] are supposed to.”
What followed was every new mother’s nightmare: a room suddenly filled with medical staff, urgent whispers, and the looming possibility of emergency surgery. Sophia Grace recalled:
“Loads of different doctors and surgeons [came into my room], which is so scary. I was, like, ‘what’s happening?’ They were, like, ‘we think we’re going to have to do a C-section because the baby’s getting distressed.’ I was just so scared that they were going to put me to sleep ‘cause that is one of my biggest fears because I think I’m not going to wake up.”
For someone who had never even been hospitalized before, the experience was overwhelming:
“I’ve never even been in hospital properly for anything in my life, so I’m laying there in a room full of so many people. I’ve got this curtain up in front of me because they don’t want you to see it, and I was numb anyway. I’d had an epidural, which numbs you from the waist down, because I couldn’t handle the pain.”
Thankfully, River was delivered safely. But the fear lingered, making Athena’s birth feel almost redemptive. Because after a C-section, doctors often recommend another. Sophia Grace, however, was encouraged by midwives to try for a natural birth:
“Because I had a C-section, they were like, ‘we’re going to book you in for another one.’ That’s what they like to do, but the midwives were, like, ‘no, we think you can have her naturally, so at least try.’ I did, and it went so quickly. … I was so proud of myself, and I was glad I got to experience a natural birth, which I would choose every time over a C-section.”
Motherhood changed her life. It tested her. It scared her. But regret? Nah. That feeling doesn’t live here!!!
