Freddie Gibbs and Madlib have announced a three-stop tour in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their acclaimed album Piñata.
The duo will be joined on the road by El Michels Affair, who also performed with Freddie and Madlib during their NPR Tiny Desk Concert in 2019, as well as Pink Siifu and Eyedress.
The tour is set to make stops in Boston, New York City and Chicago in May. The local and venue presale kicks off Tuesday (January 23) at 10 a.m. local time and runs until Thursday (January 25) at 10 p.m. local time.
The general public sale begins on Friday (January 26) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
Gibbs announced the special run on Instagram. Check out his post below.
Released on March 18, 2014, Piñata marked the first collaborative album from the two artists and pitted the Gary, Indiana MC’s gritty, world-weary lyrics against Madlib’s sample-heavy, ramshackle percussion.
Freddie was joined on the project by Mac Miller, Earl Sweatshirt, Raekwon, Scarface, Domo Genesis, Ab-Soul and a host of others.
Gangsta Gibbs and the Beat Konducta reunited in 2019 with the release of Bandana, which found the duo doubling down on their innovative approach.
That album featured fewer guest appearances, with the limited batch of collaborators including Killer Mike, Pusha T, Anderson .Paak, Yasiin Bey (f.k.a. Mos Def) and Black Thought.
Though Big Rabbit and the Madvillainy producer haven’t worked together in five years, Gibbs has been teasing another reunion.
Last year, Gibbs announced that he’s working on four joint albums and is creating is some of the “best music of his life.”
The comments were made during a sprawling interview with XXL, and while Gibbs didn’t offer many details about the projects, he did tease collaborations with Madlib as well as fellow heavyweight beatmakers The Alchemist and Boi-1da.
“I’ma hit y’all with some shit that y’all thought y’all was ready for, but you really ain’t ready for,” he said. “Alchemist and Madlib ain’t goin’ nowhere, so keep that in mind. And me and Boi-1da in the studio now real, real, real heavy.
“I’m making the best music of my life, so it’s no reason to stop. And I’m the king of R&B, so I gotta do that album as well.”
The Grammy-nominee also revealed a handful of names on his wish list of future collaborators, including Kodak Black and Future — his “current favorites,” according to XXL — as well as JAY-Z and Lil Wayne.
