You’ve heard of the fabulous international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney.
Amal and George first met in July 2013, introduced by a mutual friend over dinner at his home in Lake Como, and became engaged in April of the following year.
You probably didn’t know that the two have a considerable age gap. In an interview with the New York Times ahead of his Broadway debut for Good Night, and Good Luck, George reflected on his relationship and their age differences.
“I didn’t really think I’d have much of a chance with her because I was 17 years older and she seemed to have everything she needed,” George said.
As the couple’s twins grew, it got him thinking about his future. “I had this conversation with Amal when I turned 60,” George explained. “I said, ‘Look, I can still play full-court basketball. I can still run around. I can still do pretty much everything I did when I was 30. But in 30 years, I’m 90.'”
“That’s a real number,” he added. “My dad just hit that. And there are some things you’re not doing no matter how many granola bars you eat.”
“I told Amal, ‘We have to focus on the next 20, 25 years of making sure that we’re jamming in everything we can,'” he said. “Not just work, because no one at the end of their life goes, ‘God, I wish I worked more.'”
“There’s a thing about finding the person that you needed to find, particularly at a certain age, and everything from then on is easy,” George finished.
Truth be told, if George didn’t bring it up I wouldn’t even remember their age or any gap at all. They’re timeless.
