Kalil uses her sharp wit to batter the character of the celebrities, and internet denizens are stuck between laughing and cringing. Model and influencer Haley Kalil shared a video where she seemingly mocks the invention of fame, putting on an over-the-top display of gestures, complete with that trademark-gagged half-laugh of an iconic reality star. That one really hit home.

In the short clip, Kalil sort of acknowledged the role of outlandish fake-grande social media celebrities: jetting off line after line like: ‘I’m a supermodel, I’m a businesswoman, I’m a viral social media star… and I’m a millionaire,’ all delivered so deadpan that one is left questioning whether she’s serious or joking. It then mutters, “This is my world. You’re just living it.” Ouch! That has to sting a few egos.
Naturally, reactions ran the gamut, with some touting it as sadly all-too-on-point: ‘”The laugh is TOO REAL.”‘ Others went on admitting the satire gave them any sort of physical discomfort: ‘”this annoyed the shit out of me.”‘ Some, however, missed the point completely, demanding to know if this was ‘before she passed away.’ Obviously, Haley is very much alive and kicking.
The whole controversy spawned a vivacious eruption when the masses began naming names. One accuser pinpointed Brooke Nader of ‘The Weeknd: The Show’ as some kind of existence: ‘seems nice but a whole show?!’ Others cited MTV dating shows like ‘Splitsvilla’ and ‘Temptation Island’ as justifications for the very existence of this personality type. One of the sharpest burns came: ‘that dry-ass forced laugh haley why do that to us?’ Damn. Someone please find that person a cold compress.
The music debate became somewhat of a secondary matter, with many commentators clamoring for the claim that the backing track was ‘soooo on point,’ evidencing the need for a good soundtrack in any satire. Naturally, not everyone concurred-one viewer bad-mouthed the unnatural vibe of the timestamp in that corner of the video (’13 minutes ago just feels unnatural’), either an esoteric kind of dissection or further proof that we’ve all been on the internet a little too long.
Kalil’s humor will resonate with anyone who has ever shot a sideways glance at influencer culture. As one fan said, ‘She got a point. Like why we need to see someone’s life for no reason.’ But, really, I bet we all will tune in come time for that hypothetical reality show. The one asking for a response ‘PLEASE REPLYYY’ from Haley might want to chill a little, as DMs are probably flooded.
The video perfectly depicts the brand of internet celebrity for whom it does not matter whether he is self-aware or not and whether you find it laugh-out-loud funny or simply dull. The fact that varying reactions were given means Kalil recorded them beating the dead horse. Maybe the next on her list will be podcasters mourning cancel culture. THAT would literally break the internet!
