For the first time since the tragic death of Liam Payne, his old pal Harry Styles is opening up about how much the loss affected him.
We’re all still in shock over the One Direction singer’s death. Nearly a year and a half later we have a hard time comprehending that he’s really gone — and so is poor Harry. Ahead of the release of his new album Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally, the 32-year-old singer sat down with Zane Lowe for an Apple Music interview to talk about it.
With “full transparency,” the Watermelon Sugar hitmaker said he isn’t good at “acknowledging” what happened — and the added pressure of fans waiting for a statement from him made him question his own grief:
“I think there was a period when he passed away where I really struggled with kind of, like, acknowledging how strange it is to have people kind of, like, own part of your grief in a way. I have such strong feelings around my friend passing away. Then suddenly being, you know, like, aware of there’s maybe a desire from other people [for] you to convey that in some way, or it means you’re not feeling what you’re feeling or something.”

We truly can’t imagine how difficult it must be to struggle with something so personal when the whole world is watching. Harry put it so eloquently without revealing too much about how he feels. What a perfect way to make a statement.
The 32-year-old went on to reveal he saw a lot of himself in the late pop star, which changed his perspective on his death a lot. He said:
“It’s difficult to lose any friend, but it’s so difficult to lose a friend who is so like you in so many ways. It’s like, I saw someone with the kindest heart who just wanted to be great.”
Losing someone who was such a big part of your life is never easy. Harry is making sure to honor Liam every day, though, adding on Wednesday:
“It was a really important moment for me in terms of taking a look at my life and being able to say to myself, ‘OK, what do I want to do with my life? How do I want to live my life?’ And I think the greatest way you can honor your friends who pass away is by living your life to the fullest.”
Aww… How sweet.
