Henry Cavill’s Superman flies again in exciting DC fan art with a new suit.
Cavill was one of the main stars of the old DCEU movie franchise, which is why the fact that he was the first major DC superhero actor to be replaced by James Gunn’s DC Universe came as a shock to many. At the end of the day, it made sense story-wise, as the DCU’s slate of projects, of which the first movie was 2025’s Superman, is using a younger version of the Man of Steel. That said, the door is not forever closed for Cavill at DC, and that could even include a Superman return down the line.
On DeviantArt, user @N7JoeShep shared what Henry Cavill’s Superman return would look like with the hero wearing a new suit.
Cavill’s main Superman costume in the DCEU was very alien-like, much different than David Corenswet’s Superman from the DCU. The new DC fan art expands on Cavill’s Superman suit design by making it more armored and reminiscent of the New 52 DC Comics design for the Man of Steel. The result is a modern and sleek suit that fits the tone of Cavill’s Superman and looks quite elegant for the DC hero.
How Henry Cavill’s Superman Could Return After The End Of The DCEU
While the DCEU is over, it might not be the end of the line for those versions of DC’s heroes and villains. While the DCU will not be using any of those actors in their respective roles as a major presence in the franchise, the multiverse, a popular storytelling device in superhero stories, could easily be employed to bring Cavill’s Superman back into the fold. In Peacemaker season 2, multiple different universes were introduced, and Gunn even considered a Ryan Reynolds Deadpool cameo in the DCEU.
Superman’s next solo movie will be Man of Tomorrow, which releases in theaters on July 9, 2027.
As such, if DC is open to a Marvel crossover through the multiverse, then bringing Cavill’s Superman back, which is a much easier sell for audiences and in terms of rights issues, seems like a matter of time. A major multiverse crossover event, adapting a comic book story like Crisis on Infinite Earths or something similar, would serve as the perfect way to revisit the DCEU and have characters like Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman, and more return. With former DCEU Aquaman actor Jason Momoa now playing the DCU’s Lobo, at least one franchise star is on speed dial.
Henry Cavill Could Have A DC Future That Does Not Include Superman
If Gunn chooses to never use the multiverse for Cavill to return as Superman in a movie or two, then that will also not be the end of the road for those who want to see the actor back at DC. Back when Cavill was revealed to be out as Superman, which the actor himself announced to the world, Gunn claimed that during the conversation that he and fellow DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran had with the star, they discussed the possibility of Cavill joining the DCU as other DC characters, leaving Superman behind.
Taking into account how the DCU is trying to distance itself from the DCEU and stand on its own, perhaps that is the best future for Cavill at DC, no matter how exciting fan art like this with new Cavill Superman suits might look. The actor would be an interesting fit for a number of DC characters, such as the Human Target, General Zod, Vandal Savage, Orion, and more. While Cavill could also play Marvel’s new Wolverine after a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, having the former Superman actor in the new DC Universe would be perfect.
