Andie and Ben may be back: “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” sequel is in early development!

Add another 2000s rom-com to the legacy-sequel pile: Paramount is developing a follow-up to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, the 2003 Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey classic that’s been comfort-watch TV for an entire generation of women who grew up quoting “you’re a very hard person to say goodbye to.”

Variety first broke the news, confirming Hudson is attached to produce alongside Stacey Sher through her Shiny Penny banner, and the goal — though nothing is locked in — is for both Hudson and McConaughey to reprise their roles as magazine writer Andie Anderson and ad exec Benjamin Barry.

Key word there: goal. This is very early-stage development. There’s no writer attached yet, no logline, no confirmed cast, and no timeline. Basically, the paperwork exists and the ambition is clear, but there’s a long road between “we’d like Kate and Matthew back” and an actual movie showing up in theaters.

For anyone who needs the refresher: the original saw Andie set out to write a magazine piece by intentionally driving away the guy she’s dating, unaware that Ben has made a bet with his coworkers that he can get any woman to fall for him within 10 days, including her. The two end up actually falling for each other in the process, obviously.

Directed by Donald Petrie, the film made $177.5 million worldwide on a $50 million budget and has had an enormously long life on cable, streaming and group-chat GIFs ever since. Hudson and McConaughey also reunited years later for 2008’s Fool’s Gold, so this wouldn’t even be their first time back in each other’s orbit.

The timing tracks with what’s become a full-blown 2000s rom-com revival moment. The Devil Wears Prada 2 just proved there’s a real appetite (and box office) for bringing this era back, Practical Magic 2 is right around the corner, and a “rebuttal” to Serendipity is reportedly in the works with Michael Showalter directing. If the trend holds, don’t be shocked if this becomes one of several early-2000s favorites getting the legacy-sequel treatment in the next couple of years.

For now: no writer, no cast, no date. But if Paramount lands Hudson and McConaughey both back in the room, this is going to be one of the more anticipated rom-com announcements of the year the second it’s official.
