Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ big 3.0 update is now available, and it includes a new Resort Hotel for your island adventures. Once you gain access to the hotel, you can decorate rooms, plan outfits for guests, and more. In this guide, we show you how to unlock and find the Resort Hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How to find the Resort Hotel if you have Kapp’n unlocked
The Resort Hotel is run by Kapp’n and his family. If you already have Kapp’n on your island and you’ve updated your game to version 3.0, then you simply need to walk to his pier. There is now an expanded dock and a fancy new hotel on the water.
The hotel doors aren’t locked. So, simply head on inside and speak with Kapp’n and his family to get started with hotel activities.
Additionally, if you need to check if you’re upgraded to the latest version of the game, you can check by looking at the upper right hand corner of the main menu loading screen.
Getting started with hotel activities
Speaking with Leilani behind the reception desk will get you started with the decorating quests. You can only decorate two hotel rooms per day, so you’ll want to get started on these right away.
You’ll also want to head outside of the hotel and speak with Tom Nook. As usual, he’s looking to expand his business ventures and wants you to do all the work. He’ll ask you to craft DIY items to ship out and sell as promoted island goods. He’ll pay you for these items in Hotel Tickets.
You can speak with Grams at the souvenir shop on the right side of the hotel lobby. This is where you can spend the Hotel Tickets currency you earn for decorating rooms and completing the DIY requests from Tom Nook.
The next day’s activities will give you access to two more rooms to decorate, and you’ll unlock the option to plan hotel outfits for the guests to wear. You’ll also start to see visitors coming to your island as hotel guests.
How to unlock the hotel if you don’t have Kapp’n on your island
If you’re a new player or just a bit behind on island upgrades, you’ll need to meet a few requirements to get the Resort Hotel to appear.
You’ll first need to get Kapp’n on your island, which demands the following prerequisites:
- Have a 3-star island rating
- Upgrade your museum by donating 15 items to Blathers
- Have K.K. Slider perform a concert on your island
Upgrading your island’s rating involves beautifying and making your island more elaborate. There aren’t specific instructions for this, as the aesthetic is yours to decide, but as you add decor and clean up your island, you can check your rating at any time by speaking to Isabelle and asking for an island evaluation.
Once you’ve met that requirement, donated enough to the museum, and have hosted a K.K. Slider concert, Kapp’n will appear on your island. This is likely all the work you need to do to have the hotel appear. The hotel was already unlocked for us, but if Kapp’n and the hotel still don’t appear, you might need to wait another day before it takes effect on the island.
When you log on for the day, Isabelle should include an announcement about Kapp’n and/or the Resort Hotel as they are unlocked.
