At long last, the final installment of Ice Cube’s Friday film franchise is officially in the works.

Last Friday Gets Greenlit

On Tuesday (April 2), The Hollywood Reporter shared a new interview with New Line Cinema president and CCO Richard Brener who gave some updates on the company’s future, which includes producing the final Friday film.

“We are making another Friday,” Brener revealed.

Ice Cube is on board to write and star in the last installment. “We just closed a deal with Ice Cube to write and star,” Brener added. “It’s going to be called Last Friday.”

The Friday Film Franchise

The first Friday film, starring Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, Nia Long, Tiny “Zeus” Lister, Regina King, Clarance Witherspoon and others, dropped back in 1995. It was a cult classic and spawned two sequels, Next Friday in 2000 and Friday After Next in 2002. Since then, fans of the series have been waiting with bated breath for another film. In 2019, Cube said he wanted to put out the final film on Friday‘s 25th anniversary. His plan did not pan out but things stayed in motion behind the scenes.

Back in March, comedian Mike Epps, who costarred in the second and third films, said during an interview on The Breakfast Club that the final movie is on the way.

“[Cube] called me the other day, said we just finished the deal,” Epps revealed. “So, we doing the last Friday, man. And big shout-out to Cube; that’s another brother that has put so many brothers on, man, and don’t really get the props for it. Put me, Chris Tucker, Bernie Mac, I mean name ’em. This dude gave dudes opportunities.”

“I haven’t seen the script, but I’m pretty sure it’s good,” Epps added. “And we’re gonna bring in the new comics. We’re gonna put the DC Young Flys and all of them in with the OGs. It’s going to be a good-a*s time.”

It is unclear when the film is expected to be released.
