What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Letter from a Cave?
First, I happened to come across some articles dealing with the plight of refugees fleeing Italy for Switzerland during World War II, which touched me deeply. I also wanted to bring a few of the characters from my two trilogies (The Wine Lover’s Daughter and Family Portrait) together. The result was Letter from a Cave.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Letter from a Cave, what would they be?
The Sound of Silence by Paul Simon.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Mysteries and Literary Fiction. Yes, I write in both genres, actually across genres.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
I’m rereading All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. I’m also waiting for the next book in the Armand Gamache series by Louise Penny.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
The scene where the protagonist finds the letter in the cave in the Swiss mountains.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I have to have a cup of excellent coffee next to me. Chocolate chip cookies also help.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Carpe diem: Live in the moment, be grateful.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
I just want them to enjoy the book.
