Is Daniel Radcliffe finally joining the DC Universe? A Clayface rumor suggests that the Harry Potter star may take up the mantle of Basil Karlo on the big screen.
For some reason, Daniel Radcliffe has become a magnet for fancasts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Universe fandom alike. The Harry Potter star has been thrown out for literally dozens for roles throughout the years, with perhaps the most prominent being him taking on the role of Wolverine when (or at this point, IF) Hugh Jackman departs from the character. However, some other popular picks include Mister Miracle, Black Hand, and even Beast.
One character that has rarely, if ever, come up in fancasting discussions is Clayface. However, that may be the role that finally pushes the Harry Potter star into the DC Universe. According to a rumor by veteran entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider, Daniel Radcliffe is one of two stars being eyed to play Basil Karlo in the upcoming project. While the second actor wasn’t revealed, it’s likely another male actor in his mid-30s, potentially also being a child star.
Is Daniel Radcliffe Playing Clayface?
Like many reports to hit the rumor mill regarding the DC Universe, James Gunn actually took to social media to speak on the idea that Daniel Radcliffe was being considered for the role of Basil Karlo. Sadly, it seems that Harry Potter fans may have gotten their wands up too early. In a recent post on Threads, Gunn remarked that, as much as he enjoys Radcliffe as an actor, they haven’t begun to cast a star for the film since a director isn’t locked.
“As we confirmed the other day, we’re closing a deal with James to direct. Because we don’t have a director yet, we haven’t even started the casting process. Daniel is great but we certainly haven’t talked to or considered him. So this one is 100% false.”
This makes sense given James Gunn’s “creator first” mindset with the DC Universe. However, it’s also undeniable that Daniel Radcliffe would be a strong pick to play Basil Karlo. His history of off-kilter projects following his time in Harry Potter, such as Swiss Army Man, make him a solid pick for a superhero body horror film. Not to mention projects like Guns Akimbo and The Lost City show he has the action chops to portray Clayface in other projects outside his solo venture.
Clayface is reportedly set to film Spring 2025. This project has not yet been confirmed by DC Studios. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
