James Gunn is deep into pre-production on Superman: Legacy for DC Studios. When asked when he would reveal the costume that David Corenswet would wear in his freshman DC Universe outing, the director gave a disappointing answer.
News has been sparse on the production of Superman: Legacy given the ongoing strikes began right when casting was first being cemented. Despite this, James Gunn has continues pre-production on the project at DC Studios, having submitted his script mere days before the strike. When asked if he would debut the costume David Corenswet will sport as the Man of Steel, Gunn said they’re “Not even slightly close” to revealing his DC Universe look.
It’s entirely understandable why a costume reveal for David Corenswet in Superman: Legacy wouldn’t be happening anytime soon, given the strikes prevent the actor from even trying on the suit. Despite this, it’s certainly disappointing to fans that DC Universe will be slow to absent during the strike.
Superman’s DC Universe Future
Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark Kent and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
