Jay Jay French stated he didn’t know if his profession with Twisted Sister had been well worth the value he paid for it.
The guitarist cited the examples of George Harrison and David Bowie to assist his argument that lives in rock ’n’ roll seldom include a fairytale ending.
“You understand after they inform little ladies at Disneyland that while you get married to your prince, it is fortunately ever after?” French requested Kylie Olsson in a brand new interview (video under). “That bullshit they only offer you while you’re younger – it’s the identical bullshit within the music enterprise… It ain’t fortunately ever after, motherfucker. The worth I paid for that shit – I do not even know if it’s price it.”
He referred to as the music trade a “fucking horrible enterprise” requiring the flexibility to “stand up to the bullshit… with a purpose to reach it.” He added: “To go there, you’re going to be uncovered to extra crap than you would presumably think about; meet extra fucked up individuals than you’ll be able to presumably think about; [deal with] extra lies than you would presumably think about; cope with extra rip-offs than you would presumably think about; cope with mob guys, be threatened… all of the stuff that has nothing to do with enjoying guitar in a band. If it was simply enjoying guitar in a band, that might be one factor. However man, all of that is due to approach greater issues. And the worth one pays is big.”
French stated Harrison had been “essentially the most sad man on the planet” because of the Beatles’ success. “He was within the greatest band on the planet, proper? He hated it, the entire thing. He’s why we’re right here, and he fucking hated it.” He continued: “David Bowie has a quote about fame that I occur to agree with. What Bowie stated was, ‘The one tangible worth that fame has is that you would get a reservation in a restaurant while you want it; and in case you want an excellent physician you’ll be able to just about get one immediately.” He added: “That’s in regards to the sum of the fucking worth of rock ’n’ roll movie star.”
