Jeezy’s marriage to Jeannie Mai has disintegrated in the public eye over the past few months, with his soon-to-be ex-wife now revealing that she wasn’t even entirely caught up on his plans till he announced it.
During an appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show that aired on Monday (December 4), the television personality opened up about her recent split and how it has affected her.
“At the time when I found out — y’know, at the same time as the rest of the world — that my marriage was ending in divorce, I was gutted,” she said. “Today, it’s about picking up the pieces; it’s about discovering me and being a mom to the best blessing in my life: my little girl.
“Even though this year I met the most broken version of me, I also met the strongest version of me.”
Soon after the interview went live, TMZ reported that sources close to the couple have said her claims are false and that “clear signs of their uncoupling were long established and manifesting right before their eyes.”
In 2021, Mai and Jeezy got hitched during an intimate ceremony at their Atlanta home, and welcomed their daughter the following year. However, their love affair would come to a screeching halt in September of this year when news broke that the Church in These Streets rapper had quietly filed for divorce.
In a statement announcing his move to dissolve the marriage, the 46-year-old said: “The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart. Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart.”
He continued: “Our beautiful daughter is the best gift from our relationship, and I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves. During this period, I kindly request that you respect our family’s privacy as we focus on healing.”
Despite declaring they’ve still got love and respect for one another, the pair have been embroiled in a custody battle in the months since.
Jeezy has requested joint physical and legal custody of their child, whereas Mai has asked for sole “final decision-making authority” regarding 1-year-old Monaco’s care as well as primary physical custody. She is, however, honoring her former partner’s request for joint legal custody.
