John Mulaney and Olivia Munn are the Hollywood couple we never saw coming.
The love birds struck up a romance in 2021 after the comedian and his wife of six years Anna Marie Tendler called it quits.
It turns out the Newsroom actress had a crush on Mulaney prior to his divorce from Tendler – and now they’re parents to a baby boy, Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney.

Despite dating since mid 2021 and sharing a two-year-old son together, Mulaney and Munn only just made their relationship red carpet official, posing together at the Governors Awards.
Mulaney, 41, wore a tuxedo, whilst Munn opted for a tiered ivory dress.
Though it’s not entirely clear why the pair waited so long to pose for a picture together, it may be a result of the controversial start to their relationship.

Munn and Mulaney confirmed their son’s birth in separate Instagram posts in December 2021.
On January 11 that year, the actress shared the first photo of father and son together, shortly after Mulaney’s divorce from Tendler was finalised.
Let’s take a look at how the pair’s romance unfolded.
January 2015: Munn jokes she’s ‘obsessed’ with Mulaney after meeting him at Seth Meyers’ 2013 wedding.
“We were at a wedding together and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, do you and your fianceé want to go have dinner or something and go hang out?” Munn recalls in a chat with HuffPost Live in 2015.
She admits she couldn’t help but gravitate towards him all night.
“At first it was cool, and then I kept going up to him at the wedding like ‘So you having fun?’ I was just so obsessed with hanging out with and talking with him. I might’ve got the wrong email – probably,” she joked. “That’s what I tell myself.”

December 22, 2020: Mulaney enters a rehab facility in Pennsylvania to seek treatment for alcohol and cocaine abuse. Munn sends her good wishes to the comedian.
“Sending SO MUCH love and support to John Mulaney. You got this,” she tweets at the time.
February 2021: Mulaney completes his rehab stay and asks for a divorce from Tendler, Page Six reports.

May 11, 2021: Mulaney and Tendler officially announce they have ended their marriage.
The comedian’s camp confirms the split, saying: “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.”
“I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage,” Tendler says in an official statement to People through her representative. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

May 13, 2021: Mulaney is romantically linked to Munn after ending his six-year marriage.
“This is very new, they’re taking it slowly,” an insider tells People on May 13. “They met at church in Los Angeles.”
June 24, 2021: Munn seems to deny she’s in a relationship with Mulaney.
“I think what’s more surprising is how much is incorrect,” she told NewBeauty.
“There is so much attention on things that aren’t the truth. And if you speak up and try to say the truth, you’re accused of being messy or just not believed. I’ve gotten used to it, but it hasn’t made it easier.”
June 27, 2021: The couple is photographed together on a date at Rick’s Drive In & Out. The photo shows the pair smiling at each other as they eat lunch.
A source confirms to Us Weekly Munn is “on cloud nine” as the pair become closer.
June 30, 2021: Days later, Munn is seen leaving the comedian’s Los Angeles home.
In snaps obtained by Page Six, Munn is wearing an oversized pink jumper, leggings and a pair of glasses.
“She has been sneaking into some of his shows and loves them … Olivia is so smitten,” a source tells Us Weekly. “John thinks Olivia is really smart and she makes him laugh too. They both have a very dry sense of humour.”
September 8, 2021: Mulaney reveals he’s expecting a baby with Munn and confirms the relationship. He spills the news during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

“You’ve had a year,” Meyers, 47, tells Mulaney, to which he responded, “I packed a lot into this… Is it September now? I went to rehab in September, I got out in October, I moved out of my home from my ex-wife.
“Then in the spring I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia.”
“I got into this relationship that’s been really beautiful with someone incredible,” he continued, noting Munn’s support through his addiction troubles. “And we’re having a baby together. I was nervous when I was about to say the news!”
September 9, 2021: Mulaney and Munn are thrilled about the pregnancy, and can’t wait for the baby’s arrival.
“They are both extremely excited about the baby,” a source close to the couple tells People. “They couldn’t be happier.”
December 25, 2021
Munn confirms the arrival of her newborn son, Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney, in a Christmas Day Instagram post.
“My Golden Ox baby. Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney. Happy Holidays,” Munn wrote, alongside an adorable snap of her son sleeping.
According to TMZ, Munn gave birth to Malcolm in Los Angeles on November 24.

January 11, 2022
The actress shares her first picture of Mulaney and Malcolm in a post on Instagram.
“The smooshiest smoosh (And yep, our Christmas tree is still up )” Munn captioned a photo of Mulaney holding his newborn son.
Munn’s post came just days after Mulaney and his ex-wife Anna Marie Tendler finalised their divorce after nearly eight years of marriage.
A few weeks after Munn and Mulaney welcomed their son, Tendler shared a telling social media post about her “harsh and punishing” 2021 and spoke about experiencing “unfathomable loss”.

“Over the past two years it seems that change has been synonymous with loss and collectively this loss has been unfathomable,” Tendler wrote.
“I find myself asking, ‘when will I feel normal?’ but in reality I recognize that the normal from before has expired; ‘normal’ is an impossibility, there is only ‘new.'”

An insider source shed light on their relationship to US Weekly.
“Olivia’s truly been his rock post-rehab and is super supportive of him,” they said.
“Being a father has certainly changed his perspective on life in that he realizes he has another human to take care of so he wants to be the best dad he can be and just be healthy and present for him.”
June 2023
In honour of Father’s Day, Munn posted an Instagram photo of their family, captioning the post: “You made me a dad, Olivia. I love you forever for doing that.”
January 2024
Celebrating Mulaney’s Creative Arts Emmy win for his Netflix special Baby J, Munn shared a myriad photos to her Instagram of their big night.
“Thank you baby! What a sharp, unsafe thing to bring home!” Mulaney teased in reference to the Emmy award.
