Now, there is probably no movie we’ve written about more on BuzzFeed than Mean Girls. And, I mean, can you blame us? Almost 20 years later, the movie is still an absolute classic and has stood the test of time.
Which is why I have to say that I am actually really, really excited about the upcoming film adaption of Mean Girls: The Musical.
And so far, original cast members Tina Fey and Tim Meadows are confirmed to reprise their roles as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall. But involvement from the rest of the OG cast has been pretty mum — just speculation and rumors.
But over the weekend, Jonathan Bennett (aka Aaron Samuels) attended the 34th GLAAD Media Awards in New York, where he was asked by People if he was involved at all in the upcoming film.
Jonathan replied with the tease, “There’s some talks going on about certain things. Let’s just say that.”
He went on to talk about how much the 2004 movie means to him, saying, “So fun to be a part of a movie like Mean Girls, where so many people have such a good reaction and such a heartwarming feeling when they think about our movie, because it changed their lives in so many ways. It changed my life.”
Jonathan went on to praise Mean Girls for being ahead of its time by opening up the discussion about high school bullying: “In a lot of ways, I think Mean Girls is the first movie that actually showed what bullying was and brought it to light. But they used comedy with Tina Fey’s amazing writing to be able to talk about it. And I think it was an important movie for so many reasons, but for to bring light to bullying.”
Sadly, he didn’t comment on whether he thought his hair looked better pushed back or not. You can read the entire interview with Jonathan over at People.
