The next title from Maia Kobabe (Gender Queer), Breathe: Journeys to Healthy Binding will arrive at your local bookstore and/or public library in May 2024. Breathe is co-written by Kobabe and University of Michigan professor Dr. Sarah Peitzmeier, illustrated by Kobabe and will be published by Dutton Books for Young Readers. The title promises a “graphic guide to chest binding with real-life stories and research-backed advice.”

“Breathe was originally released to study participants published as a 32-page digital-only ‘zine. Now an expanded adaptation, this graphic guide features more art and a deeper exploration into what the research really shows about binding.“
The press release continues that “Peitzmeier and her research team interviewed 25 people of different ages and backgrounds about their journeys with binding.” Excerpts from these interviews are combined with “evidence-based resources and art” to “deliver an engaging and perspective-broadening read for anyone interested in learning what it means to be on a journey of expressing one’s gender in the ways that are joyful, healthy, and affirming.”
