EXCLUSIVE: KJ Smith Black (Sistas) and Olivia Applegate (Love & Death) are attached to star in female-driven psychological thriller Rot, marking the feature directorial debut of Cat Del Re.
Plot details are being kept under wraps but the film is described as “a darkly comic descent into self-confrontation and rebirth”, and an exploration of “the ways the body remembers what the mind tries to forget”.
Cat Del Re produces with Jessy Greer under their banner We’re There Films. The project is currently in the financing stage with additional casting conversations underway.
The creative team will include Emmy and student Academy Award-winning cinematographer Andressa Cordeiro, Artios nominee Jane Flowers (Daisy Jones & The Six), three-time Emmy winner Rick Hromadka (The West Wing), and the VFX artists at Dexter Studios (Peaky Blinders).
“I read a lot of scripts every year, but this one was unique and I knew I had to be part of it,” said casting director Flowers. “It’s meaningful and twisted and funny and surreal and important. Smart actors will be clamoring to play these roles.”
Del Re has previously worked on a dozen short films as an actress, writer and director.
