As Overcompensating gears up for sophomore year at Prime Video, Kyle MacLachlan is ready for the new season of Benito Skinner‘s college comedy.
During last week’s Season 2 premiere of Prime’s Fallout, the Golden Globe winner told Deadline that Skinner is currently working on the second season of his semi-autobiographical series, which was renewed in September.
“I know that Benny and the group are in the writers room, and I know they’re working away,” said MacLachlan on the red carpet. “But I am as curious as you are about what they have up their sleeve, so we’ll see. I mean, whatever it is, it’ll be great.”
In Season 1 of the hit comedy series, MacLachlan plays John Hanlon, the proud dad of Skinner’s closeted freshman Benny and his overachiever sister Grace (Mary Beth Barone). He appears opposite Connie Britton as the pair’s mom Kathryn.
Meanwhile, MacLachlan can be seen on Season 2 of Fallout, new episodes available Wednesdays on Prime Video, reprising his role as the complicated patriarch Hank MacLean, whose daughter Lucy (Ella Purnell) seeks to bring him to justice after learning about his part in the nuclear apocalypse.
“I’m loving it,” said MacLachlan of his current TV dad era, which also includes his What Are We Even Doing? podcast.
“I had to have the podcast, of course,” he added. “And I spent time talking with Gen Z and young millennials because I’m genuinely curious about their process, their creative process, and I have met the most amazing people along the way, and I’m just getting started, so I’m excited.”
